Numerical Method for Predicting and Evaluating the Stability of Section Coal Pillars in Underground Longwall Mining

The stability of section coal pillars is one the most important factors affecting rock systems in stope and roadway. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence methodology predict evaluate pillar stability. Data from 125 published historical cases were collected build a sample dataset. Meanwhile, mean impact value-genetic algorithm-back propagation neural network (MIV-GA-BP) fusion model was established pillars. MIV tests indicated that main influencing are (in order decreasing importance): seam buried depth > thickness working face length elastic modulus cohesion tensile strength internal friction angle Poisson’s ratio volume weight dip angle. relative weights mine design parameters generally greater than those physical mechanical mass. After BP optimized by GA, error, R value, squared error 5%, 0.95, 0.13, respectively. These results confirm machine learning has significant potential for improving evaluations. developed prediction applied two field verify its effectiveness, innovative method can be extended use similar geological conditions or other mining geaological engineering fields.
